When I was little, my cousins wanted to be nurses and it seemed that they were always reading Cherry Ames Nurse books. I didn’t want to be a nurse but, I sure wanted a nurse’s cape just like the one that Cherry Ames always wore on the front of her books.

Well, now I can. Capes are everywhere. They are long, short, trimmed in fur, trimmed in leather. They come in plaids and woolens and knits. Because I am petite the cape I bought is short so that I’m not overwhelmed. And I also purchased a pair of elbow length gloves to wear with it. And instead of wearing a nurses cap on my head I’ll wear a beret.

Fur. You don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to.

If you don’t like fur coats then don’t wear one. But fur is here and it’s not going away any time soon. Fur coats, hats, stoles, jackets, cuffs and muffs are in stores, catalogs and fashion magazines. I have loved fur forever. But, I must say, I can’t wrap my head around the fur vests being shown. They make me think of Sonny and Cher . Fur vests didn’t look good then and they haven’t improved over the years. If you’re looking to experiment with fur but aren’t going for that Clan of the Cave Bear look then try sporting gloves trimmed with fur or pair a little fur collar with velvet ties with a cardigan.

It really depends on where you shop as to what this hot, new color is called. Go to Neiman Marcus and the color is Bordeaux. Zappos calls it Burgundy. My local boutique calls it wine. And in Ferragamo they refer to the color as Ox Blood. Personally, I like Ox Blood. It reminds me of the shoe shine kit that sat in the cellar way when I was a kid. And in the kit was a tin of ox blood shoe polish. Sort of mysterious sounding – ox blood. Call it what you will, this color is hot, hot ,hot for Fall and Winter and you’ll find that it is showing up in everything from shoes, coats, scarves, gloves and boots.

So, think about introducing this color into your wardrobe. If you’re afraid of taking a huge leap like buying a coat or a $400 pair of boots then start small. Start with a scarf or a leather belt. I bet before long you’ll be asking your friends, “don’t you just love my new ox blood belt?”

I always know what time it is. Summer dresses, bare arms and a big watch. And that’s it. If you’re wearing a big watch on one wrist there is no need to load up the other arm as well. With over sized accessories it is better to edit oneself before heading out the door.

Sunglasses

I Wear My Sunglasses At Night

You can if you want to, but I prefer to wear my cool sunglasses while sitting on my patio sipping lemonade.

Espadrilles

Espadrilles are the wear everywhere with anything shoe for the summer. And they’re fun, come in any color and range in price from $ to $$$$. Even if you’re only walking to your favorite bistro in the city - pretend that you are walking in Capri and wearing a floaty dress and striped espadrilles.

Wide Belts
